Outdoor Activities

The Valley has lots of hidden gems when it comes to outdoor activities. The kids will love the play structure located at Dominion Park Drive. Or you can take them to Centennial Arena to play baseball in the summer or to have fun on the sliding hill in the winter. Langdon Park has a 1km walking trail that features a storybook by a local author to help keep the kids entertained on the hike! Sugarbush hiking trail is also located in the Valley giving residents hiking, snowshoeing and biking opportunities. Plenty of outdoor fun is available on the two lakes located in the Valley – Onwatin Lake and Whitson Lake with the beautiful Kalmo Beach and Conservation area. If golf is your game, the Valley is equipped with the challenging, yet forgiving Monte Vista Golf Course.

Recreation

The Valley is equipped with a beautiful, state-of-the-art community centre – The Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre. The centre is fully equipped with a splash pad, a swimming pool, a gymnasium, fitness centre, squash courts, a walking/jogging indoor track and also has group classes for adults and kids! The valley also has arenas that are home to recreation hockey, ice skating as well as host public skating – Centennial Arena and Raymond Plourde Arena.

Business

The Valley has two main shopping areas.  Val Caron has Val Est shopping centre which has over 21 name brand stores and restaurants including Metro, The Dollar Store, Pet Valu, Rexall and the Royal Bank.  Further down the highway is the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre which also has many name brand shops and is right across the street from Your Independent Grocer, Canadian Tire and Shoppers Drug Mart. 

The Valley is also rich with restaurants for eat-in and take-out dining.  These include:  J’s Roadhouse Bar and Grill, Cousin Vinny’s, Basil Delights Asian Cuisine, Pizza Pizzaz, Freshii, Bitter Bill’s Ice Cream Parlour, First Round Sports Bar just to name a few.

Schools

The Valley has a number of different schools to choose working with the four different school boards in Sudbury – Rainbow District School Board, Sudbury Catholic School Board, Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario and Conseil scolaire publique du Grand Nord de l’Ontario.
